Europe

EU’s telecommunications and digital ministers sign the Léon Declaration, a human-centric and rights-oriented approach to the development and governance of neurotechnologies, on October 24, 2023.
The Neurorights Foundation works closely with a range of European actors and institutions to advance responsible neurotechnology governance across the continent. Over the past two years, we’ve advised the Presidency of the European Union on applying GDPR to neural data, submitted expert consultations on the EU AI Act, helped draft the León Declaration on European Neurotechnology (signed by Ministers from 26 countries affirming their commitment to ethical innovation), contributed input to the European Charter for the Responsible Development of Neurotechnologies, provided written input on the OECD Neurotechnology Toolkit, and supported the introduction of the first-ever consumer neurotechnology legislation in European history (in Cantabria, Spain).
Our engagement across Europe continues to grow, with a number of new projects and collaborations already underway.
