Advocacy

At the Neurorights Foundation, we’re not just responding to the rise of neurotechnologies. We’re guiding its course.

The Neurorights Foundation works closely with policymakers, regulators, and industry leaders to clarify the science, define the rights at stake, and develop narrowly tailored standards to ensure that neurotechnologies are developed and used responsibly. Our work protects both the public and the potential of this transformative field, growing trust and safety in neurotechnology.

When it comes to the ethical development and deployment of neurotechnology, the Neurorights Foundation is leading the charge, setting the global agenda and translating it into real world change. We lead through action, mobilizing stakeholders, influencing policy, and ensuring that key frameworks evolve from ideas into enforceable legal standards and ethical commitments. We’re actively building a world where neurotechnology works for everyone and is protected from misuse.

From the United Nations to Latin America, Europe, and the United States, our advocacy is already driving change, and we’re just getting started. Key milestones include:

The first hard law protections for neurotechnology consumers in the world, including constitutional amendments and changes to national and sub-national privacy laws

The first ever report analyzing consumer neurotechnology company privacy practices and user rights, which was covered on the front page of the New York Times and provided the evidence base for expanding the application of consumer data privacy laws worldwide

Unanimous resolution at the UN Human Rights Council on neurotechnology and human rights, resulting in the commissioning of its Advisory Committee to prepare a report on the challenges and opportunities posed by neurotechnologies

The León Declaration, signed by European Ministers from 26 countries affirming commitment to collaboration on ethical innovation with emerging neurotechnologies

Collaboration with renowned filmmaker Werner Herzog to create the documentary “Theater of Thought,” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival

Agenda setting and substantive consultations with multilateral and regional organizations, governments, tech innovators, and leading global NGOs

What happens when the mind is no longer a sanctuary, when thoughts can be accessed, altered, and sold?
