Mission
What started in 2017 as a bold vision has grown into a worldwide movement to ensure the ethical development and deployment of neurotechnologies. Here are some of the key milestones that showcase how far we’ve come:
Our Approach: The Five Neurorights*
01
Mental Privacy
Individuals must have the ability to keep data about their mental activity protected from unwanted disclosure.
02
Identity
Individuals must have the ability to control their mental integrity and sense of self.
03
Agency
Individuals must have freedom of thought and free will to choose their own actions.
04
Fair Access to Mental Augmentation
There should be established guidelines at both international and national levels ensuring that the benefits of neurotechnology are distributed justly and equitably.
05
Protection from Algorithmic Bias
Individuals must have protection from potential biases inserted or amplified by technologies.
*Neurorights are not new human rights. Rather, they are grounded in existing human rights treaties or can be developed through their further interpretation.
Theatre of Thought
The Neurorights Foundation teamed up with legendary director Werner Herzog to create a documentary film about the human brain, called Theatre of Thought. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and we offer free educational screenings to organizations and community groups.
